Mass and bat speed

Posted by: Henry (hdearborn@lisco.com) on Mon Mar 20 15:03:13 2000

I've read where you say that players with same bat and batspeed may hit for different distances
because their bat speed at ball contact may differ.
Doesn't the mass of the player using the bat also affect the distance? I've heard that distance is a product of Mass x Velocity(squared).
So if two players swing with the same velocity and the same bat, won't the heavier player hit the ball further?
I've noticed that the overweight kids in Little League usually hit a lot further than the skinny kids even if they aren't swinging as fast.
