Jerry,

Agree with your post entirely; I see a lot of bigger 9-10 yr olds (as a dad of one myself), who swing hard, but the speed of their swing is greatest at a point AFTER contact. The coaches say "hands to the ball", so they sling everything forward and lag, and max out late. The smaller kids who stay back and rotate around an axis generate quicker batspeed earlier in their swing. Maybe the "pop" in a bat is how close to impact you max out your swing speed, and those machines just tell you how fast your swing is, period; regardless of whether it's before or after contact.
