Discussion board posting

Posted by: BatSpeed.com (support@batspeed.com) on Fri Oct 4 07:43:13 2002

Hi all:

As you all know, Jack has not been involved in posting on the discussion board lately because he has been so busy with other activities; mainly the new video which is currently being filmed. This does not mean that we have not been observing the content on this board.

To reiterate our policy, this is a discussion board that accepts posts related to baseball and softball, unlike a chatroom or news group which may accept every post. Certain posts may not be accepted, including the following situations: material that does not relate to baseball or softball, nuisance material, spam or chatroom material, advertising material, harassing/degrading/criticizing of people, not ideas, and other issues which have been reviewed on a case by case basis. We are attempting to protect the integrity of this board so that it can be enjoyable for the fans, coaches and players who want to learn and share different points of view related to baseball and softball.

It is also very important to point out that we encourage everyone’s point of view related to baseball and softball, including those that disagree with ideas presented on this site. If we were all in agreement, we would have very little to discuss. However, we encourage and expect tact and consideration when challenging another person’s point of view.

Now, it is also apparent to most viewers that a select number of individuals (some of whom use several different handles/names) are attempting to alter the focus of this board to put it mildly. Some of them wish that this discussion board would turn into a chat room or news group, some wish to gripe/criticize others, some like to vent, some refuse to keep the discussions on baseball or softball topics, and some just wish that this board would go away altogether. But then there is a majority of us who want to read about different ideas, learn from one another, discuss and share the mechanics of the baseball and softball swing. This has always been the purpose of this board, and that is what we are trying to protect.

However, recently, a relatively small number of posts are meeting this objective. Those who post helpful information are criticized personally, for no apparent reason. This is unfortunate and not what this board is intended for. Therefore, to monitor this problem and get this board back on track, it has been placed in toggle mode, meaning that posts will appear after they have been reviewed. Unless we were to switch to a membership board, this appears to be the only way that we can weed out the nonsense before it snowballs.

As always, if you have questions that you would like to address to us, please use the "Contact Us" link.
