Jack, an example of what I see sometimes was Big Mac's #20.If I am correct it was a low, outside fastball or slider that he went down for and got. What I saw on tv was Mac delaying shoulder/hip rotation, weight moving forward between center/front foot and back front slightly dragging. Not a pitch many could take out.I like alot of your theories and I agree with the early top hand torque to widen the arc of the bat so Mac could get to this pitch.Starting the hands on w/s swing early also happens. Can you change trajectories/angles on the swing after recognition? Not unless you are looking at a 70 mph fastball. My point is simply that the good hitters incorporate some of the elements of both styles based on pitch location. Somr rotational will close shoulder, drag hip on the outside pitch;some weight shift will lock/brace front leg quicker to help hip rotation on inside pitch.Age old question: What adjustments are correct during the swing? If I had the final answer to that, maybe I'd made past AA ball. I do know at a those levels and higher, the pitchers can find the holes in a swing and all styles if used exclusively have holes. How you adapt as a hitter is what gets you to the next level.
