PickPlay. Actually the best way to drive an outside pitch is to think the otherway or think about inside outing the ball. A player can inside out the ball and still hit for power. Robin Yount made a living of doing just that especially during his first mvp season when he hit .331 had 27 homeruns and over 100 rbi's before the juiced era.

The model has been replaced because there is more than one way to hit effectively. What works best is what works for the individual. Certain truths help facilitate good hitting but are not an end. A lot depends on the person's size, strength, ability, and mental makeup.

Brett hit .390, Carew .388, Gwynn .394, and Williams was the last to hit .400 at .406. Note each man was known to have a great command of the strike zone. Gwynn and Carew were opposite field hitters. Brett sprayed the ball around equally, but could hit the deep ball when the situation called for it. Williams for the most part was dead pull and almost never used the left side. So clearly there is more than one way to go.
