I feel you need to stride on every pitch. Treat each pitch as possible pitch to hit. For the normal hitter I would say when the pitcher arm is up getting ready to release you should be striding. But this also depends on the pitcher. Faster pitcher you may need to pick up your stride.

I have a question? Have you worked on check swings? I know it sounds like a stupid thing but when kids timming is off. I have them work on check swing on bad pitches. I have them get in the box and tell them I want them to act like they are going to swing but do a check swing. I throw some hard and some slow. Out side and inside.

Then after about 10 pitches let them swing the bat. And BAM!
They are in the zone.
