Front or Lead elbow too far away from body

IF the lead or front elbow is sticking out or too far away from the body (not tucked) what will this cause when swinging .... what are the results? I think I have a player that this the problem and wanted to see what are the indications are or signs that this could be a problem and how to correct it.
