Bat Length & Weight

Posted by: Kevin () on Mon Sep 27 11:10:51 2010

I am an adult playing in an adult baseball league for his last remaining years of fun on the diamond. I am 6' tall, lean and small of frame for my height. Since returning to baseball, I've experiment some with finding the right bat. I know now that end weighted bats are wrong for me... I need a model that is balanced.

One thing I haven't made a firm decision on is length and weight. I started with a 34"/31 oz which is the size I'd used since growing up. I've gotten accustomed to the length of that bat size but I've had problems too... some of which are probably related to slow bat speed from the weight. I've recently tried a -5 drop in smaller sizes (although I just recently heard it's not legal in my league), first at 33" and this season at 32". With both bats I've felt an increased degree of quickness & control but don't square balls up as much as I'd like due to the combination of lighter weight with less length. I'm missing or hitting balls off the end of the bat whereas I used to get jammed with the heavier 34" bat.

What bat length and weight should I focus on to work with?
