Back Leg 'L'

Posted by: Don (Dondeangelis@aol.com) on Tue Jun 12 11:14:27 2007

Good afternoon,
I have been a HS varsity baseball coach for 6 years and I am stumped by one of my best players swing mechanics.
This player has been our best hitter for the last 3 years. He changed his stance this year by opening up his stance...meaning a bit wider then shoulder width. He also changed his timing mechanism to be less lift and more of a heel raise (pitchers are getting faster and he feels that this is less movement and keep his lower half quite).
With all this said, his back leg does not 'drive' creating the 'L' shape that you are looking for....he pivots the back leg but it is stright and he is standing upright (more or less) when he swings.
I am curious if you have any ideas (drills) on training this 'L' back leg drive when launching to the ball.
I hope I explained this half way decently.
Thanks
