Hitting Knowledge- Experts, Schmkpertss

Posted by: S. Procito () on Wed Sep 11 16:17:40 2002

I want to point out something about "experts." The focus on developing kids to get scholarships or into the pros has made what once was a game into a business. So people are very willing to spend money to give their kids an edge on the field.

As a result, as is true any time there is money being spent, someone is around to get in on it. Some have figured out that becoming an expert in hitting they can cash in. What most try to do is to find something "new" that people will pay for. Thus you get "crush the bug" "elbow high" "swing down on the ball" and many other made up science. The point is not to teach kids to hit. It's to separate their parents from their money.

I will tell you a little secret. The important knowledge about hitting does not exist in baseball at any level. It's some where else and you will probably never see it.
